Bob Heller of Decatur, GA, has been elected District 7's representative to the ACBL board beginning January 1. He defeated four-term incumbent Bruce Reeve of Raleigh. Results were announced Oct. 6.
Board members from the district's 13 units cast ballots in August and September, and a formula weighted each unit's voting strength based on its membership. Some units chose secret balloting at meetings, others opted to have ballots mailed to individuals, who sent them directly back to the ACBL.
The ACBL has 25 districts, each with one board member regardless of size. With more than 11,700 active members, District 7 is the second largest.
The board, which deals with all matters of league governance and policy, meets three times a year, at each of the NABCs. About one-third of the board is elected every three years.
Bruce became district director after the death of Bobby McMahan of Columbia in September 1997. He served as ACBL president in 2004.
Bob, who has been District 7 president since July 2006, will step down from that position after the annual meeting Oct. 31 in Augusta.

ACBL Headquarters is moving to Horn Lake, Mississippi.

Amid considerable fanfare and with numerous government officials on hand, the city of Horn Lake MS welcomed the ACBL, which will relocate national Headquarters from Memphis later this year.

Ceremonies took place on the property, a 30,000-square-foot building originally designed as a medical facility. The ACBL will have it renovated to accommodate the Headquarters staff. Jay Baum, ACBL's chief executive, said the work probably will begin in mid-July. "We hope to be able to move in before the end of the year," Baum said.

Our Atlanta Junior Bridge students played well in the Grand National Teams (GNT) last weekend in Morganton, NC.  Congratulations to the team of Zandy Rizzo, Murphy Green, Angie Green, Arjun Dhir, Andrew Jeng and Richard Jeng for placing third Saturday which qualified them for the Flight C semi-finals Sunday in the Grand National Teams.  The Dhir team finished 3/4.

The team of Ricoh Das, Karan Vohra, William Dang, and Jimmy Fordham placed fifth on Saturday.  Coming from behind at the half, they barely missed qualifying.  Another 3VP's would have won them a place in the playoffs.

Well done and congratulations to everyone.  Not only did you play well, but your behavior, skill, and demeanor was commented upon throughout the tournament, earning good marks for young bridge players everywhere.

Zandy, Murphy, Angie, Arjun, Ricoh, Karan and William are  from Alpharetta and currently attend classes taught by Carolyn and Lee Eckert.  Andrew and Richard are from Johns Creek and are taught by Marty Nathan at the ADBC and by Lola Sliom.  Many of the players are graduates of AJB's Summer Camps taught by Nancy Watkins and Patty Tucker, and all still attend summer camps on a regular basis.  Jenni and Tom Carmichael have been working on Precision with Zandy, Murphy, Andrew, Richard and Arjun at the Alpharetta Bridge Club.  Thank you to all of the teachers, assistants and subs that share a part in their success.
